LAKE  ENTRANCE  WORKS

Many residents are now asking when will the Northern Break Wall start? They say the rocks are there, the entrance was closed and there is no nesting birds.

Let's get it started and completed before the holidays, so that the local business can recoup some of their losses.

We were led to believe that the starting date was in April 2005. The LIA has now said that due to the over 41 public responses to the EIS study, the project will be delayed by at least another two months. This amount of time needed to reply to simple questions...

Why did you lower the heigh of the wall?

Why did you shorten the length of the Northern Break Wall ?

Why aren’t you joining the new channel to the existing western channel?

Will the entrance works effect flooding?

The LIA has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a study, surely the answers are in these two large books.

When this is completed it then has to be sent to Government which could take another two months, then the birds will be back to nest until march 2006

All this may seem like normal government bungling if we did not know the budgets of two of the major players Shellharbour Council and Wollongong Council they have in their budget 2005 to 2006 $500,000 each and in 2006 to 2007 the other $500,000.

You don’t have to be Einstein to see that the LIA is stalling the project until all the funds are available in 2007 Why does the LIA cover up the truth?

At the Lake Debate before the last council election Lord Mayor Darling and Lord Mayor Hamilton made a promise and a commitment to the funding of the lake entrance works.

The Shellharbour Lord Mayor David Hamilton said he was sick and tired of the politics in such a important community project that the independent council failed to address and that work should start immediately.

A year is a long time in politics.

It would seem that election promises don’t mean much when the General Manager of Shellharbour wants to pull the plug on the entrance works if the rate payers do not want to pay the 9.5 % rate hike  that’s blackmail if this threat is carried out, that may end the project.

THREE  QUESTIONS WE WOULD LIKE THE LIA TO ANSWER

1        WHEN WILL THE NORTHEN WALL START ?

2        CAN IT START BEFORE THE BOTH COUNCILS PAY THEIR LAST $1MILLION IN 2006 TO 2007

3        IF SHELLHARBOUR COUNCIL STOP PAYMENT WILL THAT STOP THE ENTRANCE WORKS
